John Hailer Gibbon '67, for 28 years the Law Director for the City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, passed away peacefully at age 81 on October 1, 2025.
John was born in Cleveland on November 27, 1943. A passionate cellist since the age of 8, John studied and performed on the instrument throughout his life, and he received degrees in both history and cello performance. He enthusiastically pursued many interests, including woodworking, sailing, and spending time outdoors. After serving two years in the Peace Corps in Cameroon, West Africa, with his wife Pam, John had a long and distinguished career as a partner at the law firm of Walter & Haverfield.
