I noticed this language in Ted Gest's report from the Trustee Meeting, regarding changes to the Finney Compact.  The Board reassured us that the "the faculty ...retains considerable power over the curriculum."  In my view that's reducing faculty input to the one area that is undeniably, and obviously should be, a faculty concern.  It's comparable to what we faculty at Lehigh University would hear --that we had considerable power over the curriculum, although we had no collective say on crucial budgetary questions.  A sad day for Oberlin where for much of its history the faculty had far more power thant the Lehigh faculty ever did.
